Re: Another Snake ID please: Rinkhals or Bush/Forest Cobra

We were contemplating getting snakehooks interestingly enough, then my Old man said they are probably expensive...

I'll keep my noise on the ground, perhaps the classifieds...

Re: Another Snake ID please: Rinkhals or Bush/Forest Cobra

Here is another snouted cobra I killed 10 minutes ago. Sorry guys, I do try to let them go if they are not in the immediate vicinity of a house or our pets. This specific casualty, is going to our local vet (in Bronkhorstspruit) to be preserved for reference purposes. http://www.imagehost.co.za/imag...

Re: Another Snake ID please: Rinkhals or Bush/Forest Cobra

I read on the Newshost site that your friend has seen a number of these of late. If true you might want to direct him to this site so that he can get someone out there to see if the snakes on his property can be removed without being killed. If not for the snakes sake at least for his dogs, they ar...

Re: Another Snake ID please: Rinkhals or Bush/Forest Cobra

Whitelipp, I owe you an apology, I checked my memory and old photos, it would indeed seem that all the snakes that we thought were bush cobras, were indeed snouted cobras... an honest mistake, due to old literature like you said. So guess what I'm buying next time I'm going to town!

Re: Another Snake ID please: Rinkhals or Bush/Forest Cobra

That's a juvenile Snouted cobra N. annulifera for sure. A shame it was killed. Herpahabitat, YOU. ARE. AWESOME. Spot on, evertime. I owe you a beer... Next time I go up to Nylstroom, I'm looking you up! Interesting though, the snouted and bush cobra look very similar? - It's only upon closer inspec...

Re: Another Snake ID please: Rinkhals or Bush/Forest Cobra

Interesting that you should mention that the Forest/Bush Cobra isn't present in Pretoria. In the 24 years living on a farm on the outskirts of Pretoria, I've seen, killed and let go, many BUSH Cobra's... confirmed, that is - not my uneducated guess. http://www.imagehost.co.za/image-CE7D_4F801306.jpg

Another Snake ID please: Rinkhals or Bush/Forest Cobra

Hey Guys, I'm posting question on behalf of a friend. Area: Pretoria North http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v675/carnifex-za/IMG_2521-6.jpg Their opinion is that it's a Mozambique Cobra. I say it's a Forest/Bush Cobra, in one of it's phases. Rinkhals in my second guess, but the cream stomach is lea...

Re: Please identify snake

Well even I thought it was a poisonous snake, as the image in my snake book, looked nothing like the snake in question, as you can see for yourself: http://www.imagehost.co.za/thumb-A17F_4EEA5073.jpg It was an honest mistake, at the time, the image in the book looked nothing like the snake. I though...

Re: Please identify snake

Thanks for getting back to me! I live on a farm just outside Pretoria. Unfortunately, my workers are instructed if they cannot positively identify a snake a non-poisonous, they are to destroy it. I would like to mention that a sincere effort was made to try and identify the snake as non-poisonous, m...
