Re: Lake Turkana, Northern Kenya

Very envious... I was in the same area a couple of years ago. Most common find was saw scaled viper but the 'bug eye' and 'beaky' were particularly nice and gentle to handle. Only saw one of each but my hunting skills limited and I'm sure you will be much more successful... P1010980-002.JPG P1020031...

Re: Middle East Snakes - suggested ID's please?

Thanks a lot for the ID's Westley. The location is southern Iraq. Most comprehensive guide I've found on web is "Geographical distribution of the snakes of Iraq" Israa Nadhim Habeeb, Nasrullah Rastegar-Pouyani. That reference lists Spalerosophis diadema as known in Iraq but not the Coronel...

Middle East Snakes - suggested ID's please?

Hallo,
as is usually my lot, most snakes/snake pics I come across are of battered specimens...
Can anyone help with ID of the following two individuals?

Re: Uganda Jaunt - a sequel

Thanks Kenny and Kev, would have taken a while to get most of those even with 'the book'. Seen a few adult fish eagles here - never would have guessed the juvenile one although seems obvious now that you've ID'd it. Any thoughts on the snake - difficult I guess since someone obviously didn't like it...

Re: Uganda Jaunt - a sequel

Another snake which was foolish enough to show itself on a road in a community area... usual fate. One of the guys took this couple months ago on a phone so very low quality and he didn't know to get any close up shots. Anyone have a stab at a species? 20130724_150103.jpg And still hoping for help o...

Re: Uganda Jaunt - a sequel

Marvellous, thanks. Really like to put names to the faces! Glad the puff pic is appreciated. Most of my shots are a bit rushed - catch, sometimes hold for a day or two until get an opportunity to drop it somewhere safe but too busy to take time to get the right light and setting etc for great pics. ...

Re: Uganda Jaunt - a sequel

Kenny, I guess you will have most of the same birds then - googled a few pics of the park and quite similar to local parks/reserve areas here. I hope I can get down there one day. Many of these bird pics not in conservation areas so not even of particularly elusive species I imagine. I've got at lea...

Another Puff Adder
demonstrates how fast the iris responds to change in light...
firing with flash at least a couple of shots a second and this is the difference between 2 consequetive shots. Recovery to original position was very fast also.

Re: Uganda Jaunt - a sequel

Thanks Westley.
Checked it in Spawls and as far as I can see your suggestion is a match - including the distribution that show it extends to Albert valley. I'd only skimmed the pics and Spawls has a dark, dull one, but description states very variable including light to very dark green.

Re: Uganda Jaunt - a sequel

Pretty Puff Great the way they move away at a rock steady pace, head looking sideways straight to camera in a 'make my day' pose. Rest of the body dead straight and moving in a perfect straight line. Re: Uganda Jaunt - a sequel

Nice big chameleon. Wonder if anyone can confirm ID? The only similar one I see in Spawls shows very limited distribution and not in Uganda. It's one of the biggest chameleons I've come across. I've included the blurry shot showing the body pattern as only one I got. As you can see it was bit annoye...
