identification

Hi guys This morning I came across this guy, it is in my old corn cage but I would like to know what it is and is it safe to return him to the field? He was discovered next to our garage, and our gardener was keen to kill it. Thanks. http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/tt180/Belgoroth/S7301213.jpg
