Re: Herping Around Gauteng

Westley, sorry about the very late reply. I sent some photos of the Acontias to JM. He thinks it is A. gracilicauda. Some finds from a few weeks ago: Delalande's Sandveld Lizard (Nucras lalandii) http://i324.photobucket.com/albums/k333/nosnibor_2008/20150322_102055.jpg Another Transvaal Girdled Liza...

Re: Vipera ammodytes ammodytes Birth

Thanks Craig.

Well it just wouldn't be fair for you to get M. xanthina, M. l. obtusa and V. ammodytes all in one season ;)

Re: Vipera ammodytes ammodytes Birth

Thank you for all the kind comments. Just an update on the babies. They all ate without a problem. This species is a pleasure to work with. Some photos of what I think are the nicest looking neonates http://i324.photobucket.com/albums/k333/nosnibor_2008/20150120_193343.jpg?t=1422168847 http://i324.p...

As it was fairly close to winter when I bought them, they could have mated while still with their previous owner. So I cant s...

Re: Herping Around Gauteng

Not all of the Girdled Lizards were moved to a different genus.

Have a look at the paper in the below link named Stanley.pdf. (Page 67 has a schematic showing the relationships)

Herping Around Gauteng

The East Rand has had some good rains lately. These are some of the herps that we have found for the season so far. Rhombic Egg-eater (Dasypeltis scabra) This first one had a nice colour to it http://i324.photobucket.com/albums/k333/nosnibor_2008/20141026_163000.jpg http://i324.photobucket.com/album...

Re: Indigenous Gecko's Anyone Got Anything?

I keep a trio of Pachydactylus geitje . I got them from some kid that was keeping them in a box. They were very thin but are starting to gain some weight. They are pretty nervous animals and will not eat in front of me but if i sit stil for a bit they actively hunt little crickets. I have not found ...

Re: Illegal vs immoral

Well first of all it should be made legal in a controlled manner, and yes in captivity until it dies. Imagine wiping out a population from introducing pathogens.
