Re: Psammophis leightoni

Ah OK, I think I've sorted it out.

It appears to rather be a common-or-garden variety P. notostictus.

I run into these Usain Bolts so seldom, that for a bit I thought I may have a leightoni

Psammophis leightoni

Hi guys. When last did someone run into one of these? I may have nabbed one, but need to know who else has run into them in recent years

Re: Naja kaouthia bite. (monocle cobra)

LOL...the memories of near death experiences... You didn't reply to me, so I take it they are the same ones you got from me when i first bought them they were quite aggressive I've yet to meet an "aggressive" snake; from keeping large retics, af rocks and anacondas to elapids and even Dabo...

Hi Nivea
Glad you're ok.

Agreed, Varanus' news is good, although I stand by my assertion that those snakes did not need to leave the province. Deon, at no point was it mentioned to me by the self-appointed powers that be that my name was mentioned in rehabbing the snakes. We all know what the lady whose name you so casually...

I think you would be the first to admit that the knowledge and experience base of the majority of "CRC venomous members" is limited, if not outright rudimentary at best. Having lots of money to buy any and all venomous snakes available does not count for much amongst guys who've been doing...

Greetings. As I know the parties involved, I feel I should add my 2 cents. The legalities in this case pose an interesting conundrum: -if I obtain a transport permit from my house to yours, because you are going to be "looking after" and supposedly displaying my snakes while I am overseas,...

Hi. Sorry to come in so late, been away in Kuruman. I've been keeping niveas for quite a while now, and have found that they need slightly more specific requirements than say, snouteds. I keep 6 together, 4 females, 2 males, ranging in size from 1.6m to 1.92m. If I introduce anything under 1m into t...

I've found that the Mozambiquan's kill time is often quicker than that of even a large arietans - scary.
The only cyto carrying snake that is quicker, in my opinion, is the WA gaboon. My big girl kills an adult rat in under a minute, and the decomposition rate is frightening.

It's unfortunately fairly common. I've seen 3 fox terriers kill a large nivea, and have heard stories from people up the west coast how their dogs have killed cobras. It appears the terriers and hunting dogs, like the retrievers, are quick enough to dodge the cobra's strike and then snap in for a ki...

The yanks work by an extra pair of hands for every 3ft over 6ft. As BV says, know your snake. In general, burms tend to allow themselves to be lifted off the ground more so than retics. 3 people for a 9ft snake seems a little excessive. Ask yourself - why are you moving the snake? Does it need to be...

He's been with a female a few times before I got him; I've had Tygerberg Zoo wanting him, but they've got South Eastern ones, and quite frankly, I'm not that keen on letting any of my snakes be with any from the zoo... He's too big to hook and tail, so I handle him like an O. hannah, control of the ...
