Just be careful wearing a diving mask as goggles. You have to breathe from the mouth. I heard of someone getting spat in the mouth by a spitter because of the exact same reason. He says it was terrible. :D

I've seen this before and it was not pretty. It starts off pinkish and red, then turns into a massive blister and turns out to be a severe case of scale rot, get it off the substrate and put it on some newspaper. I hope the snake is OK. Definitely a Housie. They are more active at night, but I have found loads in the day too. These are by far the best South African Snake. I am always surprised at the meal size they can handle.

I agree it looks like a guttural toad, would have pink blotches behind the back legs, but can't tell from this angle, nice finds.

I know of only two males in SA, the two females I have known of have died without offspring. Still looking for a female here if anyone has one on offer.
