I agree on the first one probably being a Letheobia but I have no idea what occurs in our area. Is longicauda patternless? I have another 'full body shot' if it helps (of the creature, not of me). Still not 100% convinced its not a worm, but a closeup does seem to reveal scales. If it is a Letheobia...
Thanks! The only species listed for Kasanka is Rhinotyphlops schmidt i, which I've found before and looks considerably different. Would you agree though that it is a species of blind snake? Just now somebody is going to wreck my dreams and tell me its a worm after all? I only have the photograph to ...
Hey Guys, Our resident Baboon researcher has been snapping away merrily at the herps that have surfaced over this rainy season and came across a few that raised questions. Already some interesting additions to our reptile list, which now stands at 54 species with some very obvious gaps in the record...
Hello All, My name is Bastiaan and I work for the Kasanka Trust Ltd in Northern Zambia, a not-for-profit conservation trust tasked with the management of Kasanka and Lavushi Manda National Parks in Northern Zambia. We have been based in Kasanka for the past 25 years and this area has thus been well-...
I have saved the skin and skull to be preserved and displayed in our Conservation Centre. How should I preserve a DNA sample and who would be interested in it?
Today was a great day in Kasanka history with the first confirmed record of a Gaboon Viper within Park boundaries! The animal, a juvenile presumably, was found along the Kasanka River on the road adjacent to a patch of termitaria thicket. Unfortunately it was a roadkill animal, I suspect that I may ...
Nice pics. I live in Kasanka National Park, just on the other side of the panhandle in Zambia. We have a species of spitting cobra too which we have always assumed to be a black-necked spitting cobra (Naja nigricollis). I have attached some pics. Based on your knowledge of the area/species and the a...
Hehe, I managed to speak to the person who took the photo. Apparently there were a few photo's of an Australia trip on the same memory card and they thus got introduced to our system. A Morelia indeed, and no range expansion .
It must be a mixup then. Boulengeria annulata is what comes closest in terms of patterning but they have only been recorded in the far north of the country, the behaviour is very atypical also. Ill try track down the photographer but for now ill put it down to a photographic mixup...
thats what i thought, like a childrens pythons or something. thats why i suspect it might not have been taken here, although the vegetation def occurs here. how about blanding's tree snake? they apparently occur in the region. dont think the head shows in the pic to be honest, but ill see. it was a ...

Hello All, Need some help with another snake ID. Found this picture amongst our database of pics of the Park where I work. Kasanka National Park is located in Central Zambia, just to the right of the DRC panhandle. I am not certain this photo was taken here, but it is included in one of the albums. ...
