Re: safe potting soil

Well, I checked out their website and they seem to love the 100% natural thing.

Usually, they will say what's in the medium, especially anything harmful. I just know from experience that organic does not mean all natural and fantastic. They can use some harsh chemicals. Maybe send them an email?

Re: Looking for advice for new T's

Hey there, I've never had interest in the H. lividium. They're pretty, but I've never wanted one. I love the idea of the H. gigas! I very nearly bought one a year or so ago. I tend to stay away from burrowing spiders though. No particular reason other than personal preference. As far as arboreals, y...

Re: My latest additions

Haha! Oops.. I meant to say peat moss and perlite. NOT vermiculite. Never vermiculite.

My bad... My mind was elsewhere.

Re: safe potting soil

Yeah, it's been mentioned. Just make DEAD sure there is no added fertilizer.
Even if it's organic. They aren't always free of these harmful chemicals.
It's sometimes scary to discover what chemicals they put into their products.

Re: My latest additions

I'm really looking forward to it. I'm a little concerned about the VFT. It doesn't look fantastic. But, as I said, terrible care they were receiving. Two of it's traps have died but it has got another two growing. From what I've read so far, the traps only work 5-6 times before they die off. So it's...

Re: My latest additions

Thanks!

@AinslieZA I got them from our local Malanseuns Plantland. I've seen them a few times there in the past.

I'll definitely take some pictures soon.

I'll also give you information on how we set up the terrarium.

My latest additions

Not too sure where I could put this... I was impulsive yesterday and saved two carnivorous plants from the terrible looking care they were getting. I got a Venus Fly Trap and a Sundew. I've always found carnivorous plants really fascinating. So, I'm glad to have two as my new 'pets' Thankfully, my h...

Re: Haven't been round these parts in a while

I'll be sure to. Hoping to get some photos taken this weekend. My next planned purchase is an A. metallica. Maybe an A. urticans but I do prefer the metallic. But I'm also looking to get another L. parahybana. I had a mature female on my arm over the weekend and remembered why I fell in love with th...

Re: Haven't been round these parts in a while

Hey Mr V My daughter would love you forever. She's become fascinated with bugs. Every time she's been in the garden she's captured yet another one. She loves them and finds them all beautiful. We've managed to get her to be careful with them and no longer damage the wings but I still quite often get...

Haven't been round these parts in a while

Hi guys :smt006 How are you all? It's been way too long since I last visited. Nice to see you still going strong. I wanted to come back to stay a good while ago but I'd sold my snake collection and took a step away from the community. About two years ago I was 'persuaded' to buy my first tarantula a...

Re: Can I have an ID please?

Thanks guys! I was stung by a scorpion a few months ago so I know what that feels like. Almost certain it was the same type as this one but I didn't stand around to find out (more like ran around crying and feeling sorry for myself) It looked very similar. It stung me right on the tip of my finger. ...

Can I have an ID please?

Morning all, A friend of mine came across this guy in her flat the other evening. She was obviously a bit concerned because she has a 2 yr old boy, and.. well I'd be a bit concerned too. My knowledge of scorpions is sucky She hasn't killed him. She still has him in a container/tank (not sure) and pl...

Urgent snake ID needed

I can't find an appropriate forum to put this in.

Someone I know who lives in CT came across this snake in their labs.
Anyone know what it is?
