Re: Pretoria Petshop Sold - a little insight

Skyell, I had that problem alot with people buying starter kits, especially for kids birthdays only a day or 2 before the kids birthday. I would always supply water from my treatment tank and a small dosage of live culture bacteria so that their fish would survive. It is sad that people would not ge...

Pretoria Petshop Sold - a little insight

Hi everyone. The reason I am writing this post is because I have sold my Pet Shop in Pretoria. I am still getting phone calls from my customers daily because I have sold. I want to to assure every one that although I do not plan on opening a new shop soon, I am still packing my substrates that you h...

Re: un"egg"spected!

Thought I would quickly send an update on this matter. On day 50 tragedy struck when I walked into the store and found that the whole container has sunk to the bottom of the tank. I had no idea how long the eggs have been submerged but decided to move the eggs to a new container and keep incubating ...

Re: un"egg"spected!

The tub is closed with a lid, but we have to open it at least every second day to prevent to much droplets falling on the eggs, have placed a drip guard so that should sort out that problem! With the cooler temps this weekend, the temp did drop to around 27C, but we have upped the heater a bit, just...

un"egg"spected!

On Saturday, one of my unsexed "male" cornsnakes started laying eggs. I never probed the snake, just checked the tail as it was in any case a bit small, in my opinion, for breeding so would have probed next year to make sure, Long story short, this was a runaway snake that some poor guy fo...

Re: Best Display Snake

Also look at the Taiwanese ratsnakes. They are not as commonly kept and love as some other snakes, don't know why? If you can afford a large cage and can spare the space, I believe this snake might just be what you are looking for. They are very active, very large rat snakes, that can grow u...

Re: Just a matter of interest

I would put it in a smaller enclosure. Just enough space for the snake to stretch out. Taking away more of the open spaces and giving more hides. A hide should be small enough so that once the snake enters it curls up and should be able to feel the "roof" of the hide against its back. This...

Re: Housing Boas and Pythons together?

Generally putting 2s snakes together is a bad idea. If your cage is not ready yet, rather ask the person you are getting it from to hold on to it until the cage is ready. If this is not possible, rather get a big tub and keep it in there for the 10 days. When I started out I used to keep my rat snak...

Re: Dyslexic posters.

I think grammer is way more important in writing a post than spelling. Msot popele wlil be albe too raed waht I worte here! This is because our brains have the ability to scramble and restructure the words as we read. Reading a whole sentence which was written using poor grammer will end up either c...

Re: luck of the draw

Boas can grow to about 300% in size in the first year, on a good healthyvdiet it should reach about a meter in a year or so. I currently have 2 adults 3 sub adults and 35 babies, almost all of them has striked at me, but have never been bitten, I don't like getting bitten, so I handle with care even...

Re: Possible Ovulation Yes / No

I'm not sure about Dumerils, but as I understand some animals including snakes can withhold birth for up to a couple of months. Also some sites on boas says that the RTB's can take from 4 and up to 9 months to give birth. With my own, it was to the date 5 months from the day I seperated them to the ...

Re: Other hobbies

Freediving, its total freedom, although due to work constraints I was unable to practice this sport for a number of months, which will change again this year, so I'll be back in the water, when I'm not cleaning cages. For those of you that do not know what freediving is check out this link 20m deep ...

Re: What do you prefer - Aspen or Kenaf?

has any one ever used Kenaf for Iguanas?

If snakes can digest it, it should be no problem for iggies?

Re: mold???

try not to create a draft, its not good for rtb. Rather add more vents, that sorted out my problem. The mold grows due to the lack of ventilation, as the humidity causes the substate and wood too stay damp.
