Re: Eyelash Viper - Swollen mouth and pit.

Thanks Snakesitter! I shall feed him a few pinkies at first, he is still quite small and usually gets fed fuzzies. Weighs 15g.

Re: Eyelash Viper - Swollen mouth and pit.

Thanks Westley! There was no incision, the gunk was seeping out there on its own, he just helped squeeze it out. The vet says that he has had a case like this before with a gaboon viper, that had a stuck / unshedded fang that caused the venom gland infection. We looked for any on this little guy but...

Re: Eyelash Viper - Swollen mouth and pit.

Do you have some pics of how it started out ?? Sorry bud. The first pics I took were the day after we squeezed all the pus out. I wish I had as it was really swollen! https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-XvAh_HByrnM/UhUNKbL_UsI/AAAAAAAAAo8/S3hzDBOWSg8/s640/RSCN4134.JPG This is him today. https://lh3....

Reptile postage stamps.

These are some reptile stamps that I collected whilst in school, many moons ago. There are some species there that you may recognise as indigenous to SA. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Gel1clU_eQ0/UhJXecNkvZI/AAAAAAAAAoo/WxEh_aFTsdM/s720/Stamps6.jpg?gl=ZA https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-vu6EZ...

Re: Eyelash Viper - Swollen mouth and pit.

The antibiotic was Amikacin, which is the second time I have used this antibiotic.
The dosage 0.05 Amikacin into 0.9ml saline, and then 0.025ml is the amount of mixture I am to administer on Sunday again... You will have to do the math.
The snake still seems fine, so far so good.

Re: Eyelash Viper - Swollen mouth and pit.

Took the snake to the vet, he gassed it to put it under. It had an abscess / infected venom gland, he managed to squeeze out quite a bit of pus, which came out of the eye socket. The snake looks a bit better already, with the swelling down. It's on a antibiotic, so we now we will have to wait and se...

Re: Eyelash Viper - Swollen mouth and pit.

Thanks for your comments. There has been no change so I am going to take it to a vet. That is my most aggressive snake, border line insane actually, so this should be a fun outing.

Eyelash Viper - Swollen mouth and pit.

I have a yearling eyelash viper that has developed massive swelling on its face in front of the eye, her pit is double its size and the fang area of her head/roof of mouth. It seems to be a swelling of the face rather than in the mouth. There seems to be a slight discharge coming from the pit. The sw...

Re: Burmese python not eating

Hannes how are your cage temps? If the snake is not warm enough it will not eat.
Make sure it has a large bowl of water and a decent hide box too.
Are you feeding frozen thawed, live or freshly killed rats?

Re: Western hognose not eating

It's also winter, lots of snakes go off food during the winter months, even if they are heated. If your hognose is looking healthy enough, don't worry too much. Another month or two and it should have a better feeding response.

Re: Living Gems Breeding Update, Part 4

Its seems like everyone's snakes around here are humping like bunnies... Except mine. The day after you give up is when they'll show interest. ;-) Keep the faith! Thanks bud, its my first year with adult vipers, however I have not witnessed any pairings yet! Waiting for September, still have hope.
