Re: Treatment for cut on ball python

brentraf wrote:Hey Jacques,

Any update on your BP? Would really like to know how the little guy is doing?

Doing great, thanks. Feeding well and I have no concerns about recovery at all anymore.

I'll post here every couple of weeks with an update, but I'll wait another 2 months before removing the stitches.

Re: Treatment for cut on ball python

She is recovering well and ate yesterday. Also drinking plenty of water.

We fed her a small mouse that we also injected with some vitamins and minerals.

Re: Treatment for cut on ball python

When suturing skin in reptiles, make sure an everting pattern is used to avoid inverting (rolling in) of the wound edges. Also leave the sutures in for +-3mths as apposed to the usual 10-14d in mammals and birds. Instead of Baytril (requires daily injections), consider Amikacin or Ceftazidime...inj...

Re: Treatment for cut on ball python

Please just keep a eye on that wound. Those CF lights have nasty powder in them that could cause problems. Yep, rinsed the cut with sterile water to make sure there is nothing in there. Just got some sutures and the cut is now nicely stitched up. Now only the meds and then it's waiting for the woun...

Re: Treatment for cut on ball python

Everyone I called so far suggested Baytril, but as usual nobody has any stock, so I had to order. Hope it will arrive soon.

gekosin wrote:How are you going to remove the sticky plaster from the snake if you need to change the dressing?

If you apply baby oil or even cooking oil on the adhesive parts they will be dissolved and fall off without leaving any stickiness behind.

Re: Treatment for cut on ball python

Thanks for all the replies. I'll look into all the info you guys have given me. This morning I removed the Vet-Flex and replaced it with a waterproof post-op plaster as I think it will be much better to prevent bacteria from entering the wound. Also it's very sticky and will not fall off. http://i49...

Re: Treatment for cut on ball python

Thanks for the reply westley. I agree and we are looking for a vet online as I type this. I also saw a YouTube video where the guy recommended Baytril, so I'm going to look more into that as well.

Hi Jacques, Sorry I can't really help but I hope your BP gets better that really sucks though. Please keep us posted! Brent Thanks Brent, I'm confident that if there is no infection or stress related issues the injury will heal. I've seen reptiles with worse injuries survive in the wild. I'm stayin...

Treatment for cut on ball python

Today our Ball Python was badly cut when he managed to squeeze himself in between the glass coils of a florescent UVB light. The light popped and he cut himself on the back muscle. We called every single vet in the surrounding area, but not one is even remotely interested in helping and all it needs...

Re: Spitting Puff Adders?

This can be explained very simply and I'm amazed non of you guys realised it. The journalist (Mariska Grobbelaar) that wrote the article obviously didn't have her facts straight and since the part about the snake spitting is not in quotes those are not the direct words of the snake expert, but those...
