First Generation Lavender Bloodred Project

This is my first attempt at breeding diffused lavenders. Sadly the first one out doesn't have very nice diffused sides, but he's lovely nonetheless. I'm hoping to get out some with more superior diffusion, so hold thumbs :) https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-I61dm5RM958/VKGdOA7uCtI/AAAAAAAAQzs/VYIg7...

And so it begins ... First hatchlings of the season

These pretty little snows and ultramel anerys started hatching today. I love the blue eyes of the ultramel anerys. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Gqy8gfzSJac/VKGdAthzxOI/AAAAAAAAQy0/gnDEQKXRamU/s576/IMG_3132.JPG https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-33TYEt3Pbis/VKGdWhfuwdI/AAAAAAAAQ0U/wmoHTilVMdk/s...

Re: Female Amel corn first clutch

No need for fancy incubators and thermostats for corn snake eggs. All you need is a 2 litre ice cream container, half filled with MOIST vermiculite. Then you simply partially cover the eggs with the vermiculite, put the lid on (make sure it's air tight - no ventilation), and put it on a shelf. Norma...

Hopefully your amel female is het for both anery and motley, so you can get out some more nice snow motleys like the father.

Re: What Am I

Oops, perhaps I should read the posts thoroughly before I comment. I take my words back ... the so called "Expert" who told the pet shop lady that it is a Lava Lavender needs to be shot!

Re: What Am I

Have you sexed it to make double sure it is in fact a female? Although I've seen many large females (I've got some large one's myself), most often the one's that get to that size are males.

Re: What Am I

A snow motley, without a doubt :) And a very nice one too. These pet shop people drive me insane with all the names they come up with. Do they think everybody is ignorant??? Cleary, she's clueless about corn snake morphs and for that reason should rather keep her mouth shut. It's for this reason peo...

Re: Breeding season coming!

Vermiculate works well, but it's very messy with the females in and out of their nest box. It also works out costly if you're breeding a lot of snakes.

Re: Breeding season coming!

We always use moist wood shavings for the hide box. Been using it for as long as I can remember. It's a very cheap option, especially if you are expecting LOTS of females to lay :)

Re: It Finally Happened

They're looking stunning. Thanks for the update pics :)

Motley corns usually have a "hypoish" look as the motley pattern diminishes the black pigmentation. True hypo motleys are much more pale.

Re: Corn Update

I didn't keep any of the striped ghosts back for myself from that clutch, but I know from the past that this particular breeding produces pastel stripes. The very pink / peach colouration of your one is a sure indication that yours is possibily (probably) a pastel stripe. Here is a pic from Ians Viv...
