Re: Cape cobra?

Nehima Your assumption about where the black phase of the cape cobra occurs is based on old literature and incorrect, I have collected numerous copper brown and speckled specimens in the North Western Northern Cape before. I have also collected black specimens in some localities in the Western Cape ...

Re: Neonate BHS release?

In this case they are wild snakes, the natural order of things should be preserved. Look don’t get me wrong, taking them and keeping them as pets would make no difference really, whether the law says you may or not is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. What is relevant is that we really add n...

Re: Releasing of a baby puff-adder

What was finally decided in the Eastern Cape under the new reptile policy was that translocation of indigenous problem reptiles should be within a 3km radius. There were a few reasons for this. A few studies have been done and reptiles that have shown that most species have relatively small home ran...

Re: Please help and advise on GTP system

Hi Eight You have definitely chosen an awesome species. Personally I this glass is a bad idea. It just doestnt retain heat. Rather look at a properly sealed wooden cage, they work perfectly well. There are some very nice plastic cages on the market too which would also be a good option. Your sizes a...

Re: Usambara Eyelash Bush Viper Pics

Be very careful about over feeding that Atheris. In the wild it is highly unlikely that they would be getting food as often as we tend to feed in captivity nor would they be getting pinkies. I would strongly suggest feeding that snake a pink every two weeks perhaps even using longer intervals. Small...

Re: Good news about Leopard tortoises in Gauteng

I can’t believe that it is that difficult to get a permit for an indigenous tortoise in Gauteng. I would approach the authorities explain the situation. As for the “breeder” he is being irresponsible and breaking the law and damaging our hobby . Unfortunately once he is reported the future of his to...

Re: Nat Geo's Snakes in the city?

I have also had the unfortunate experience of watching some of this series. I honestly can’t believe that this would ever be aired. Perhaps we will all be lucky and the series will be cut short. :D

Re: Good news for the Eastern Cape

@ Ghoti The purpose of limiting households to 1 tortoise is to prevent unwanted breeding. People who really want to breed can still acquire their breeding stock the normal way of sourcing legal captive animals and applying for permits. Appendix 2 applies to certain species only, not all colubrids, h...
