Re: Another Hoggy keeper

I learned the hard way not to keep them together. Being zealous feeders as you said they can eat each other. In my case I was very lucky to be in the snake room at the time, so was able to pull them apart, with no harm done.

Good luck, they are great animals to keep.

Chameleon Village was robbed!

I bear bad news. At about 1am this morning, 3 criminals robbed the Reptile Park, and the bastards got away with ALL the cash from the donation box. Estimated to be over R50 000.00. This money was going to be presented to the Save A Child Foundation the weekend after Martin left the snake room at the...

Snake Courses on Saturday 31 May, 28 June, 26 July 2008

SNAKE COURSES I run snake courses for the general public, outdoors people, field guides, farmers, snake keepers, doctors, vets, etc. In short, anybody that may come in contact with snakes or snakebite will benefit from these courses. These courses were researched and compiled after a number of peopl...

Re: Spotted Skaapksteker

Where I found it, there is a lot of construction going on, and heading towards the open velt at an alarming rate. I always find releasing in Randburg very challenging, as most places look promising now for the reps, but a year later will be doomed. House snakes I usually release close to where I fou...

Spotted Skaapksteker

Got this call-out in Wilgeheuwel (Randburg / Roodepoordt) last night. Seems quite rare for the West Rand. http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b387/ColinFleming/skaap06.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b387/ColinFleming/skaap05.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b387/ColinFleming/skaap04.jpg ht...

Re: Rufous Beaked Snake!! my observations!!

Has anyone even been bitten by one here, and what is the general bite like?

You may want to add more info on their venom...

Yes it was. Next to Windsor Golf Course in Randburg... Please can you try to get me more details. At least who the DJ was, and what time it was about.

Thanks, this will be a great help!

I have a feeling that it was dumped though. It was found in then middle of a largish park, so the snake would have had to get through houses and complex walls first, and then get to the water hole in the middle of the park. A snake that size is not hard to find if it escaped in someone's home... Any...
