I use Isopods in my tarantula enclosure, they are really awesome cleaners, any dead and decaying crickets get eaten, and plant matter that is busy decaying gets eaten, and if the spider does a poo on the ground or in reach of the Isopods gets cleaned.
The only thing with Isopods is that they need moisture, if it is to dry they die super fast.
If the substrate is to moist you will have more chance of growing mites.

I have been using bio active substrate (or DIRT) for a while now.

Works great, no problems

Not at all, they are save, one of the only bugs that can stay together with your Tarantula. I have been using Isopods going onto 3years now.
Isopods are herbivores, only eat plant matter and decaying matter.

I would stay away from the bio active substrate for tarantulas, just use palm peat.

You can find them any where that is moist, under logs, leaves on the ground, compost heaps under rocks, bricks any where really.

Yes your tarantulas will eat them, so you have to keep replacing them.
