Hi!

I stay in Johannesburg. I'm planning on getting a copperhead in the near future. I'm correct in saying I won't need a permit? Also, where can I get a list of which animals (reptiles, spiders and scorpions) needs permits? Any websites?

Gogreeff, in Gauteng you can keep almost any exotic reptile or arachnid at this stage.

The only exotic arachnid which is not allowed is the OBT and all exotic Chelonians (tortoises and terrapins) are not allowed. This does not mean you can apply for a permit, it means you cannot keep them.

This may change in future but we will cross that bridge later.
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Those who are afraid to ask are ashamed of learning.

Yes in the parts that use to be the old Cape province you still need to apply for a possession as well to be able to keep the animals. The import permit is just to show that you imported the reptile legally into the province :D
To herp or not to herp that is the question
