Using snake shed

Postby Redmachine » Sun Dec 25, 2011 10:40 am

Hi all. Merry Christmas and all the best for the new year.
I'm expecting a shed from all my snakes today or tomorrow and was wondering is there anyway you could use the snake skin.
Let's say I wanted to make a bracelet from the skin. Will I be able to somehow harden it together and compress it all so it becomes hard? I have searched into google and couldn't find anything.
Thanks in Advance.

Making a bracelet is a bit hard but you can decoupage it onto a rock.

If you have a snake which has a nice disruptive pattern and preferably keeled scales (puff adder, Gaboon etc) then you can let it dry, cut it down the middle of the belly and dampen it again. Place this on a smooth plank and glue it down with wood glue and water. This will end up looking like a real snake skin. Practice a few times and it becomes quite easy.
