Outdoor snake room

Hi all.

Mother dearest has finally let me build an outdoor shed to keep my snakes in. This is my first big prject so I want to do this right. The dimensions will be 3.5m by 3m. I will be using Norwegian pine to consruct everything except the framework and the roof. The roof will be made of corrugated iron so I will put in a polystyrene ceiling to prevent the snakes from cooking in Summer.I will use panel heaters to heat the entire room instead of buying heat pads, cables and multiple thermostats. I will also install and extractor fan and a large window. I will use a stable door for this unit and it will open outwards to maximise interior space.

Here a some pics of my first interior layout. This excludes the extractor fan and all the smaller pieces.

The rack will take tubs of varying sizes all and the large display is two units of 1.75m L x 1m D x 1m H. They will open from the top and the top will act as my work table. The two small squares at the bottom are panel heaters and the large rectangle is a window.

If anyone sees any flaws in my design or has any ideas as to how I can improve on this, please speak up!

Looks good. Sounds Good.

Print screen = Screen shot of Current Content on your screen.. You should see it on your keyboard just right of F12 (PrtScr Depends on the Keyboard). If you Hold in Alt + PrtScr it will only capture the current screen your on..

Heating the whole room can be problematic.
As your reptiles cant move withing the cage when they get too hot...
You need a temp gradient.

Thats a good point. I know of some very successful snake breeders that use this technique. Will keeping the temperature at 28 degrees in the room and only heating some of the exotic setups work then?

I have been to some guys snake rooms and they use the same heating system. Heating the room seems much cost effective then heating 500+ tubs. Additional heating is used for the pythons and arboreal snakes. I think the snakes get into their water bowls to cool off. These guys have been having success for years with this system.

If you have central heating a good rule of thumb is heat to 22-23 and then use that as the ambient temp.
Each thank then can have individual heating to its requirements so then each tank will have the required temp gradient.

Looks good so far - 3.5x3 you gonna wish it was bigger later

In sketch-up export the file as a 2d image - jpeg fiddle with the settings - this works better than screen shot/print screen
I would not bother making the colours in the drawing - trust me plans work better in simple greys

see how the 2d export comes out....

I have my heart set on that method now. Im not terribly familiar with sketchup so my skills arent that advanced yet. I dont have much space so 3 x 3.5 is the biggest i can go. I miiiight be able to make it 3.5 x 3.5 but thats being optimistic.

Looks great tough. Is sketchup available as free software? The one's I see want to charge US495, which I am not willing to pay.

Thanks, I presume that while it is still good, it lacks some functionality of the Pro Version.
It seems however that one still can make some good stuff with it.

Yip - I think most of the render options have been excluded but still perfect top design stuff with.

Downloaded and tested it. Seems fine, but one needs to know how to work it. Would like to design a rondavel with it for starters.
