Here is a video I put together after a few discussions regarding free handling and necking.

Hope you find it interesting.

Very practical indeed BV! No need to grab the snake behind the head with one's bare hands!

Thank you for making a video, as in a class room set up there is no replay. Good video that can be used as reference and the correct tools to do it safely.
As a general rule, the more we learn about snakes and their ways, the less fear we have of them. This is usually not so with the Mamba.
The more one learns of his ways, the greater grows the dread of him.
He, without doubt, is the King of Snakes in South Africa.
For quickness, aggressiveness, and the deadly nature of his venom, he has no equal.

Everyone needs to watch this video, brilliant!

Nice video BV and good technique. Always good to use safer options when possible.

Shoes were irrelevant at this stage. Its not as if I was going to step on them. I could have shot this video naked. The idea is that protective wear is not of any importance. Puff adder fangs would go through most shoes and boots in any case.

Thanks for all the positive comments. I might look at doing one a month.

Lekker video.

I enjoy the fact that they snakes were actually quite lively and not just limp, which kind of defeats the purpose of a demonstration.

I have always been fond of tubes and you have nicely displayed exactly why.

I look forward to next month's installment.

The tool used for the puff adder, it that a piece of wood? If so then its not a case of one size fits all. Or is there a sponge or something at the bottom?

Tipan there is a bow shape cut into the wood. This is then padded with medium density foam rubber. This is designed for most snakes I would need to restrain. The really really large ones like Gaboon adders and large cobras can be pinned but then they do feel discomfort. In that case I pin them on a sheet of soft foam rubber.

I have to leave enough leeway to be able to slip a tube down the throat so squashing them like most other pinning tools do, does not help me if I am using this to give medication.
