Ground gecko has lump in neck

Postby Gargoyle » Wed Apr 10, 2013 10:50 am

Hi All,

My ground gecko,Digger, has a large 'squishy' lump on the right of his neck. He has had this for some time and from what I think I know, its possibly a build up of calcium that causes the swelling. So I have stopped feeding him roaches and worms with calcium on, in hope that it will subside. Its however been a month and his swelling doesnt seem to be going down. He is still active at night and eats well and isnt losing any weight.

Does this lump go down eventually? Any conflicting opinions? Id love to hear what you think.

Thanks - Apologies for the quality pic.

I don't know much about geckos but I would suggest that you take your little guy to a vet.

Hope you come right.

Take a picture of him from below. The skin under his neck should be translucent so will be able to see better.

It looks like the normal, healthy calcium sacs, but can't be 100% sure from the pics.

It's it's very white from below, I would guess that it is a calcium sac. Is there another on the other side of the neck?

Westley, its only on the one side. So he looks lopsided but its white underneath and slightly translucent but that I'de assume is from the skin stretching a little. This is the best pisc I have with me at the moment.
Question then is, does this eventually go away and do I continue to feed him no calcium?

Looks pretty normal for a large calcium sack to me, but maybe one of our geckos gurus can give you a better idea.

Appreciate the response Westley - Hopefully in time I can become a gecko guru myself.
