Both hatchlings together.

The stripe showing through!

A small complication however is this!!!?seems to be a small piece of vermiculite stuck in the eye!?tried to rub it out but don't want to do any damage! Was thinking about just leaving it to see what happens?maybe it'll fall out by itself...any other suggestions?

Congratulations Trayton, they are gorgeous!!

I have never had any hatchlings with vermiculite stuck on the eye so I can't give you any advice. Hopefully it will drop off in a day or two. Maybe just keep it very moist so that it does not absorb moisture from the eye.

Keep us updated with pics as they grow.

BTW, did you incubate them to be males or females?

Congrats Trayton!

I would also leave the vermiculite and see if it falls out. Maybe moisture is casing it to stick.

I would remove it by spraying it rather vigorously with a spray bottle filled with luke warm slightly salty water.

Well done with hatching them. I know they are common overseas but are unusual here.

Congrats Trayton! Hopefully you will introduce loads of these to the South African market, do you have more on the way?

I would use a damp earbud to get the vermiculite out of the little guys eye

Michelle-They were incubated at an average temp of 29-30,so i think its up to them now, wierd how TSD works!

Liam-its really in there,i don't want to cause it to cut or rupture the eye.

BV-i'll leave for a day or two,and try your idea, any ideas on dilution ration salt/water?

Pythonodipsas-you think more moisture is going to loosen it or keep it there longer?

Thanks guys, there are more on the way (hopefully)she laid another two eggs yesterday.

If it is stuck deep then I dont know. I just know that my hatcling snakes are sometimes covered in vermiculite that takes a day or so to come off.

Just don't want it to cause some sort of infection,in which case it'll probably lose the eye...or i could lose the animal...

Medical saline solution has a salinity of 0.9%. Anything close to that should basically be fine.

So Trayton, did the vermiculite fall out?

Sadly it didn't,the gecko with the vermiculite died on saturday evening, found it on its back with its eye extremely swollen, the good news is that its sibling is doing great.

Hopefully i'll do better with the next batch,it is only my first year breeding them so i wasn't expecting miracles, more eggs incubating though so we can only wait and see.

Thanks for your comments guys!

I got two eggs from mine and it looks like the eggs are collapsing. They were smaller than leopard gecko eggs so I think they were at a disadvantage from the beginning.
