Super worms for flapneck chameleon

Postby KaranD » Wed Nov 14, 2012 9:35 pm

Hi all just trying to figure out which worms are best for my cham...
Tried meal worms and according to the net it has a low nutritional value, not to sure how true this.I have now purchased some superworms and read that the shell is too hard to digest as with the meal worms. any advice on which is the best?
Also if anyone can direct us to a store in Pretoria that sells chameleon food with a high nutritional value.

Use roaches. Better nutrition and nice soft bodies.
3-1-4 Leopard Gecko
1-1-2 Bearded Dragon
0-1 Brown House Snake
2-3 Ball Python
1-1 Western Hognose
1-1 Kenyan Sand Boa
3-2 Corn Snake
0-0-1 Bosc Monitor
0-1 Taiwanese rat snake

Its illegal to keep Flap-necks. Rather get a Veiled Chameleon.

Try feeding Orange-Spotted / Dubia Roaches. They move like crickets, but they're a whole lot more nutritious.

She knows they are illegal but lets all take a look at this topic www.sareptiles.co.za/forum/viewtopic.php?t=30524 before we say anything about the legality of this animal.

Try getting Forest roaches (B. lateralis), this species can't climb.
So you can leave them in the feeding bowls, that has smooth sides and they won't get out.

The spotted roaches also don't climb, but they have a hard head shields the bigger they get.
The smaller roaches are nice a juicy.

Flap necked chameleons eat beetles in the wild and you are worried about super worms exoskeletons? Flap necks chew their food as well so I would not worry. Give him a varied diet with a bit of everything.
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Those who are afraid to ask are ashamed of learning.
