I would say it's a Opistacanthus validus. Where was it found?

Mpumalanga area.

There seem to be very few online resources regarding South African Scorpians. Why is that? Or am I just not looking hard enough?

I have never found the internet useful when it comes to scorpions. Get Jonathan Leeming's "Scorpions of Southern Africa" book. It's the best! I just checked it now, and your scorpion does seem to be a Opistacanthus validus. I thought it could also be a Cheloctonus jonesii, but in his book it says they are brown with yellow legs in Mpumalanga.
