Scorpions where?

Scorpions where?

Postby brolloks » Mon Feb 08, 2016 11:24 am

Hi Everyone,

Been looking at getting back into keeping some scorpions but can't seem to find anyone selling?
I am looking for some South African thick tales species and the Emperor as well.

If anyone can nudge me in the right direction I would really appreciate it!

Thank you.

Thick tails are not easy to find although there are some people keeping and breeding them. Emperors you can get at either of the expos.

Hi Bushviper, just heard a rumour that many Scorpions are now illegal to keep in captivity? :smt017

Yes certain scorpions are listed as TOPS animals. This includes the Flat rock scorpions and a few others. If you use the search function I am sure you will find the list of the other species.

Hi, I contacted just about every individual I could find on google including the link above but no luck :smt017
I think I will give some of the Reptile Expo's a try as Bushviper suggested and see if anyone there might have Pandinus imperator.

I have noticed that three species are declared endangered and will stay clear of those:
Opistophthalmus spp – All species +/- 60 types.
Opisthacanthus spp - All species +/- 57 types
Hadogenes spp – All species - Flat Rock Scorpions

Regards

Hi Guys, just want to say thanks. I am now the proud owner of 3 Pandinus imperator's. Got them at the Expo as suggested.
I have got them all set-up in their enclosures with coco peat to keep up the humidity up a bit and a few items to borrow under. I actually found a fake wolf skull at a petshop that was cast in what looks like plaster of paris. It looks intense!

Also got some crickets but I forgot how nasty cricket enclosures get and stink, I think I will rather try and breed with roaches, maybe Nauphoeta cinerea, Blaptica Dubia or Oxyhaloa deusta.

I am still looking for thick-tailed species though as they are the ones I stared off with all those years back and have got a certain allure to them.
