Retics in SA.

Retics in SA.

Postby boaboy » Sat Aug 06, 2011 2:09 am

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

I was wandering what morphs/types of retics are avalable in SA at the moment? How readily avalable and what is one looking at spending??
I was mainly thinking in terms of dwarfs and super dwarfs but would like to know in general as well.

Thanks in advance,

James

Arno just brought in a couple of beauty's. Also Graeme Lotter is also busy with some exiting breeding programs with them. They should be able to tell you what is cooking in the SA retic scene.

If I had to guess off the top of my head, I'd say we have:

Normal
Tiger
Super Tiger
White albino
Lavender albino
Purlple albino
Tiger Albino
Super Tiger Albino
Genetic Stripe
Dwarf
Dwarf Tiger
Super Dwarf
Sunfire

And I'm sure many of these morphs will be het for something else so I think we are not doing badly in terms of morphs.

Of course there will be some guys secretive about what they have, but that's what makes it interesting.

Hopefully early next year you can add Super dwarf Platinums to the list. These will make leucistic Super dwarfs which have not been produced yet. These are expected to sell in the region of $20 000 each. Even just the Platinum super dwarfs will cost about R50 000 to land and then its three years before they breed. Just imagine a snake the size of a Carpet python which is pure white with jet black eyes!!!

I think the market will move to retics because they are much hardier than burmese and are easier to keep. They are more slender snakes so can be kept in the same size cages as what a burmese python could. The dwarfs can be kept in smaller cages and the super dwarfs can be kept in tubs suitable for boa constrictors.

I will definitely be in the market for a super dwarf when the time comes.
I love retics, just don't have the space for one.
