Python killed by civet

This is interesting a python killed by a civet. Contained 57 eggs. Sent to me by a guy who does walking safaris .
Its in the Luangua Valley, Zambia, and photographed by Martha and John Hesse.

Interesting! I would imagine it must have been a fair fight where either of the contestants could have turned into the food source. I often wonder what leopards, etc do when they come into contact with a 4m+ python...

A civet hardly seems the sort of animal to tackle a fully grown adult female Rock Python. I would have believed that of a Honey badger. Did they see the fight?

I guess this snake may not have been too big for a large Civet cat to handle, but it does seem unusual. A would also expect this more from a Honey badger. Apparently Honey Badgers are so tenacious they have been known to disembowel adult buffalo by jumping, clawing and biting, only to bring the animal down and have a big feast.

I don't think a Civet would be able to kill a Python of this size.
Having said that, I can remeber when I was about 12 years old my mom finding a Rinkhals in the bathroom and my dad telling her to put the cat in the bathroom and that he was on his way home.
Result, dead Rinkhals.

Interesting, i can't see what a python could do against a quick, small animal like a civet. Maybe it was taking more risks by staying out longer due to being gravid.
I remember Mongoose saw a smaller python killed by a tree squirrel.

any more info? Was this infact observed by the people that took the pics? Any more pics availeble? Thats a good sized python.
