Python natalensis 2011 breeding project

Python natalensis 2011 breeding project

Postby Engaiauden » Mon Nov 29, 2010 8:17 pm

Hi, I live in Italy and I keep 4.1 very healty Python natalensis with regular permits.
Here is the video of my female swallowing a dead chick:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMjHcDixyA4
I know females should weigh at least 5,1 Kg (Ludovic DAVID, 2010 pers comm) or 5,9 Kg (Dave and Tracy Barker, 1994) to breed, mine weights 3,5 Kg actually, so I think she should be ready in December 2011 after a regular feeding schedule (rats, quails and less frequently chicks - the latter is not so nutritious).
Watching the video you'll see I use a special purified straw as substrate, I used newspapers or reptile carpets time ago, but this straw is really absorbent and agglomerating.
I am interested to swap one of my males with another healty male or female to create new bloodlines, maybe there's someone in Europe who still keep this rare species in captivity.

Best regards

Hey Stefano,

Good luck with the P natelensis, they are awesome animals to work with. I am hoping mine will breed this coming season as well.
