Please Identify

Please Identify

Postby rolandslf » Tue Feb 15, 2011 10:23 am

To cut a long story short. A guy I know hooted at my gate at 21h50 last night.
I went out, he stated that he had caught a snake in his brother in laws garage at a block of flats.
I necked the snake, approximately 1.7 meters in length, fairly thick, yellowy brown back, white creamy belly, black head, has heat pits.
I identified it as definitely being some type of Python or Boa.
Opinions Please. This snake is definitely either an escapee or has been stolen from someone.
The guy refused to leave the snake with me.

Interesting find Roland. I think it may be a White Lipped or De Alberts python Leiopython albertisii

Such a beautiful snake. Hope someone did not let it go on purpose.

Are you serious?

I'm sure someone will be knocking at your friend's door to claim his (expensive) pet back.

Definitely a White-lipped Python.

Thanks for the info Craig, I also believe it to be a White Lipped Python.
Why I query it being stolen is that my wife and I suspect this guy of having stolen some snakes from me previously, but don't have proof.
He comes to me from time to time with snakes he is selling.
He does not really know what he is doing with snakes, but how do I get a rareish beauty like this away from him?

Yip, and a lot of snake owners in Durb's have also lost that snake.
I have an idea whose snake it is and will be contacting them.
The problem will be getting it away from the guy who "Found It".

This snake does in fact belong to Supercilliaris, I did not connect a username to the persons actual name.
The two names were tied up with a phone call.
Mitton, thanks for helping me on this one. I made contact with Andrew and I will now and try to get him and the snake back together.

I am trying to make contact with the youngster who has the snake.
Hopefully an appeal to his better side will produce results and he hands the snake over.

This is unbelievable. I am glad Andrew now knows who has his snake. Very lucky that it actually turned up within our circle. I say this guy should be hit with the full might of the law or may just hit would work as well. If I were Andre I would not be in the best of moods right now and would be cooking up various methods of pain delivery to this guy. That snake is very beautiful and different.

Can you guys please give us a bit more info?

Was the snake lost?

Did it escape?

Was it stolen?

Hey Rishaad, all I can add is this. Being Honest sometimes sucks.
When the guy asked me to identify the snake he actually said, "If it is venomous I don't want it', this is before I even saw the snake.
Me like an Ahole, takes a look and says, Oh, it is some type of Python or Boa and definitely non-venomous.
I should have just said, Venemous, and kept it.
It seems as if the snake was an Escapee.
