Is this normal behaviour for a dumeril?

Is this normal behaviour for a dumeril?

Postby MJ Fourie » Fri Nov 19, 2010 2:08 pm

I often find my one dumeril female lying on her side, looks like she is playing dead or sleeping. Is this normal behaviour? She is an excellent feeder and have no other abnormalities that I have noticed. Please help??

Most of the time that is a sign of being gravid, has she been with a male?
What is her age?

Hallo guys, I dont really know how old she is, I bought her about 6 months ago from a guy who had her as a pet snake in the house. From her size and my little experience I would gues her age to be around 3 years. I was thinking that maybe she is just positioning herself on top of the heatpad in such a way to warm up her stomach, because she had about 4 medium rats lastweek. Shes to small to be gravid now!!! what do I do now?

Both my Dumeril's do this from time to time, the female more often. Strange that you guys say its a sign that they're gravid as mine do this all year round (male too).

The Madagascan boas (Dumerils and Ground boas) are inclined to do this and scare the hell out of their keepers. I have no idea why they do this but dont worry about it.
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Those who are afraid to ask are ashamed of learning.
