Sexing a Dumeril?

Sexing a Dumeril?

Postby Kev » Tue May 01, 2012 9:34 pm

Ok so I got a yearling Dumeril this weekend, and I’m not to sure on how to sex him/her.
I get 7 subcaudal scales when probing.
Now from what I’ve found a male should be 10-12, females I’m not to sure about but 7 seems a bit much?
I also read that males have spurs and females do not, with no exceptions.
My little one has no spurs what so ever.
Any suggestions?

Here is a shot of the tail.

I would like to see what the other guys say , but based on what I see that appears to be a male, when probing the probe should barely go sown at all with females, and all boids have spurs and I am pretty sure I can see spurs on this fella.

Kev the best is to pack it up and bring it to the expo. Let us have a look at it and then we can let you know for sure. Just tell them at the door that you arranged with me to bring it in and keep it in a bag inside a box so that not everyone sees you bringing in snakes.
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.
