Hi guys,

I'm trying to find out what the smallest available boa in S.A. is, ranging from 2-3 feet ( 60cm-1m) ?

Thanks

Well, even smaller than the figures you mention, I reckon that the Kenyan Sand Boa is about the smallest available in South Africa at the moment.

Yeah all the mentioned one's get to about 3 feet on average. I'm looking for a similar colouration to a red tail boa, as its what I am interested in but just don't like the size they can reach up to.

Well then you'll have to go for Hogg Island Boas.

I saw Superciliaris had some for sal earlier this year so maybe he still has some left or you'll have to wait for next year.

You cant go wrong with them and the bonus is that they're locally available.

Hi TonyK, yeah I hear that but what if he decides to be the monster that I do not have the space for? (as I would get a young one to grow up myself) I've been looking at getting a red tail boa as they are really beautiful snakes.

Weylin a male hogg island boa will not grow that big. They do however cost quite a bit more than a normal boa.

Colombian or common boas will take a good few years to get to over 2 metres if they are going to grow that big. In that time I am sure you will be able to organise a bigger place for them. Look for very dark boas and try to see what size parents they came from. This usually gives you an idea of what the babies are going to grow up to be. Dark boas often come from the mexican side of the distribution and are smaller.
