LGR Baby Update: G4

LGR Baby Update: G4

Postby Snakesitter » Wed Jul 20, 2016 10:07 pm

It looks like Nephrite, of Breeding Group 4, will be the first Living Gems girl to deliver in 2016. A strong orange female produced in July 2010…

…she was paired with DuVall, an exceptional high-orange male also produced in July 2010:

This represents DuVall’s first litter, but in August 2014 Nephrite produced this exceptional little gem with Picasso:

She looks to deliver in August of this year as well, if I am (and she is!) counting correctly. I look forward to seeing what surprises this pairing produces this year!

As always, thank you for reading,

Hey Cliff , thanks for the update !! Quick question if you dont mind ? ....

Duvall & Nephrite seem uniform in colour ie The blotches and base coloration are similar (personally I like the red ones).
The last picture " Little Gem" has more variation in color , ie the background colour is different to the pattern colour giving it a more contrasting look.
My question regarding the above is this: Is the contrasting look a juvenile thing and as the grow the colours become one ?

Look forward to your reply
Thnaks again

Great question, Andrew...and the answer is that every snake is different. Differing background and highlight colors are almost always the case as babies, but some adults seem to grow into one uniform color as adults...while others do not. I have not yet seen a definite pattern as to which animals grow to be solid color, but suspect certain pairings will have a higher chance of doing so than others.
