If you are looking for a light one, it will be best to stay away from DLRS, maybe look at a Canon powershot G12.

If you want great pictures and want to go far with photograph, get a DLRS, look at a Nikon D7000. Buy a proper lens also, like the 16-85mm.

look at my blog to get more info

I hate point and shoots.

If you want a proper camera get a entry level DSLR like a canon 1000D, its not that expensive only like R4000. But lens would cost more, and a 100mm lens is great to take snake shots. It just isn't cheap. The new one is something like R8000.

I start with normal camera recommendations for normal people who just want great pictures, then get to suggestions for dedicated photographers, and end with great gift suggestions.
