Recommendation please

Postby Primogen » Fri Jun 14, 2013 2:28 pm

So I have been wanting to get a DSLR camera and have been hunting around a lot to find a good deal and finding out what to chose.
I have narrowed by choices down to 3 and would like to know what the photographers recommend before I just go ahead and get one.
My choices are:
Nikon D5100 18-55mm VR and 55-200mm VR lens.(I'm leaning on this one at the moment)
Nikon D3200 18-55mm VR and 55-200mm VR lens.
Canon 600D 18-55mm len.

Are these good cameras for someone that is just starting or am I making a mistake with these.

Opinions welcome and needed please.

I would say the Canon 600D with the 3 lens kit. I have seen and taken some very good photos with one, I have seen that the 700D is out now, but is 3K for expensive.

Go for Canon but don't get the 3 lens kit, I made that "mistake" when I got mine (550D) and only use the 18-55mm lens, the other 2 are a waste. You can play with the 18-55mm and then get yourself a 100mm macro later on or at the same time.

The 700D is out but there is virtually no difference between that and the 650D except the R3k price difference and a few settings.

The 650D is now coming out with a 18-135mm SDM lens (better lens than the 18-55mm) for R9.
You can also get a 650D with 18-55mm and 55-250mm lenses, memory card and bag for R9k, depending what you need.

The 100mm macro lens without IS is about R5800.

Ah ok, then I guess I also won't be getting the 3 lens kit. Was thinking the 300mm lens is good for close ups?

Thanks for replies and I did not really consider the 650D because its been discontinued and stock is very hard to come by now.
I will need to get a bag and mem card aswell but a macro lense is out of the budget for now.

Just found this now http://www.cameralandsandton.co.za/canon-eos-700d-kit. (SIte looks a little dodgy though)

Only getting the camera at the month end so i have lots of time to scout around for a 700d.

Ok so I made my choice, going to get the Canon 650d(700d is not much better) with the 18-135mm STM lense only problem is no where seems to have stock of the lense so more waiting for me.

Thanks for the suggestion.
I have tried them although and they don't have lense in stock either, the ETA from Canon is the 3rd of July so I just need to wait.
