The wide angle shots are brilliant (thanks for the idea.. ;) ) The one thing that is a necessity is a polarizing filter. Without the filter the sky would look whitish and spoil the whole picture. Look forward to seeing some of your posts with the fisheye...

Could you not just use a higher F. to get a more blue sky?

Nope. A polarising filter produces an effect that you cannot get by simply underexposing. Although underexposing will help to get a blue sky bluer, it will also make the foreground darker (which is undesirable) . With some serious post-editing you can probably get close to the real thing, but it is far easier (slightly more expensive) to just get the filter and rotate it to suite your needs. It removes reflections and is especially effective with water or bright sand/snow. Won't go into more details about perpendicular waves....

Depending on lighting conditions fill flash is often required with such shots. i.e. the recent Arabian horned viper which was at almost dusk, the fill flash made it, and is barely noticeable.

Nope unfortunately not. We got 2 dead T.beetzi (Beetz's tiger snakes) and two dead N.nivea (Cape cobra). The one cobra was a dark orange juvenile and the other one was one of the prettiest speckled versions I have ever seen. Pity they were dead though. I found it quite strange that no puffies were found even though we were wandering in their territory for 2 weeks and many smaller adders were out. And as for corals...that is my excuse for returning next year ;)

Holding back....mmm...maybe. The other pics can only be shown on a laptop, next to a campfire and with plenty of cold ones waiting. I have already decided when I'm going to take leave next year, and where I'm going, so you'll get your chance to come with .... :D

Looking forward to the weekends report!

Nope! No luck there. We only had 2 evenings of roadcruising because the rest were too cold.

Road cruising. We found D.O.R B.cornuta, B.schneideri and B.caudalis, so clearly they were active. Maybe the puffies like cooler temperatures than the other dwarf adders, and were only active later at night when there are less vehicles on the roads. Last year I got a big puffie that was out on a very cold morning, so clearly they can stand the cooler temps.
