If it was on the westrand, then it is probably one of the caco's, likely the Common Caco, Cacosternum boettgerii. they are small frogs about 10-15mm in length, common across the highveld, and make a noise like a cricket. I have noticed a number of colour/pattern variations amongst individuals from the same vicinity. The males tend to have a lot more green on them the females tend to be a lot browner. i'd say if htis is a common caco then it's a male.
