First Bull Frog find in over 10 years

Postby Jacquesvw » Mon Dec 17, 2012 8:25 am

Yesterday turned out to be a very special day for me, because it was over ten years ago when I last found a bull frog on our farm.

For the last couple of years I've been looking for them after every major rain shower and I never found any trace of them. Yesterday was the first sunny day after 4 days of heavy raining and I finally found one in a pool of water. Last night I decided to go back and look for more and managed to find three more at the same location.

I'm rather surprised to find four in a single day when years went by without ever spotting one. I also found them in an area I never expected any, because there are no major bodies of water nearby only a couple of small pools when it rain and they usually dry up in a couple of days. I'm just happy that they are still in the area and though I'd share my big surprise.

Bullfrogs like pans which dry out, They dont breed in bodies of water that are full all year around because of aquatic predators. If the pan dries out that means there are no fish etc to feed on the tadpoles. Glad to see they are back (or have come out of hiding).
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Those who are afraid to ask are ashamed of learning.
