Re-Introducing species on a Game Farm

Hi Guys and Gals

I am looking for a contact or even some info regarding the re introduction of some Frog/Toad species in Limpopo province.
Is there anyone who can help me get in contact with a Pro or someone dealing with this sort of thing?

We have just repaired and also made new Dams on our 1200 hectare Game farm and would like to start a program where we introduce species that have minimised over the years.

Maybe some sort of rehabilitation project of sorts.

The "re introduction"of amphibians is a sensitive subject. There are serious risks of spreading disease to other populations as well as issues of genetic pollution. If you create the habitat, the amphibians will come! You would be surprised how many frogs and toads will come out of the "wood work" when you build a pond/dam in the bush where there was none before. If we preserve their environment the animals will find their own way.

I agree with Warren. Reintroducing frogs rarely works, rather let them find their way back. You can entice them by creating a frog happy environment, the dams are obviously the most important but you could plant some reeds along one side of the dam and add some logs around the banks. You could even put the effort into making a wetland are if you wanted. Running water attracts them well although that's not easy to achieve.

I agree with the disease issues. The frogs do somehow make their way there if the habitat is suitable.

Really do not see the need to re-introduce and small species of animal. The species that where on the game farm before you built dams will still be there and make their own way there. No need to interfere with nature on this one. Nice gesture though but not practical.

Dams are in full swing and we are planting reeds and water Flora all along the edges.
Did Not introduce anything, but the frogs are singing in the evenings and we have a pair of geese now making nest on the island.

Well done - good job!! A dam takes years before it will "settle" and mature!! Enjoy!
