Axolotl Ownership

Hi All,

I'm new to this forum, been keeping tarantulas for a few years and tropical fish prior to that and I want to branch out into amphibians. Specifically, I would like to start with Ambystoma mexicanum, but I can't get any clear information on the legality of keeping them. The only Ambystoma specified on latest NEMBA list is A. tigrinum, which is banned and there are no Ambystoma listed on the restricted list.

There seems to be some anecdotal information that you either can keep them without/with a permit, but you cannot sell them or transport them across provincial borders, but I haven't been able to find the applicable legislation. If anybody can point me to a specific piece of legislation, that would be great.

Also, if anybody is willing to let me "adopt" a juvenile or two, please PM me. I'm in Joburg.
