ID and info please?

Postby DevenK » Sat Apr 05, 2008 10:50 pm

Hey everyone, please can I get an ID for this little guy? Found him tonight.
Is it legal to keep in GP? If so, what would a tank setup be like?

Thanks.

it is the very very rare gutteral toad - Amietophrynus gutturalis.

Not sure on legalities tho? Keep him like that with moist soil and a water bowl. Feed it crickets, meal worms or whatever. Leaves to hide in or a rock to hide under during the day
what the hell is wrong with me?

The only amphibians that you require a permit for are the Bullfrogs. This is a toad and as such you could legally keep him.

A big aquarium with a damp area and hiding place would be appreciated. They would not normally need heat if kept indoors.

Dont leave him in a constantly wet area nor should the cage dry out completely.

It will eat almost anything that it can fit in its mouth. Earthworms, crickets and even pinks should keep him happy.
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Those who are afraid to ask are ashamed of learning.

I keep a racous toad and i find it hard to keep it large, i feed it woodlice and other small insects in large quantities, and it can be hard to get alot of food each day. I tried crickets, but it didn't take, try grasshoppers as well. Good luck.
Life is but a glimpse of triumph amongst incomprehensible failure.

Thanks everyone!

He seems to like crickets, just a little slow catching them sometimes. :-)
