Please help identify snake, thanks

Just to thank everyone for being so quick to assist. It's been fantastic.

Everyone seems to agree that it's a Night adder, and most probably a rhombic night adder (after seeing the larger pic) ...

There is absolutely no doubt that it is a Common night adder (Causus rhombeatus) and a hatchling at that.

Snouted night adders do not occur anywhere in the Cape and they have different markings and an easily identified upturned snout.
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Those who are afraid to ask are ashamed of learning.
