I have one comment; I think your C. niger is actually C. polyzonus. My reason for saying that is that C. niger has less scale rows on it's back, while C. polyzonus has much more.
Looking at your picture, your specimen has a lot of rows on it's back. Add to tat the fact that coastal polyzonus are jet black, and you might have a positive ID.
Googe C. niger and C. polyzonus and don't focus on the colour. Jus look at the "texture" of the backs.
