My apologies, Kenny. I did not intend to hijack your thread with my photos. I'm working with the administrator to have them removed. I hope this didn't cause you any problems.

No problem Cary, I just want to keep it "indigenous".

Hi Kenny

Do mind if I post some of my pictures from a recent visit to that area? No herps but some photos of the area's wildlife and landscapes.

As long as its indigenous I'm cool happy about seeing new things from the area... It's often motivating to see "what can be seen" if you know what I mean.

Cheers Sfourie

Hey Guys,

I finally "found" a little beauty. While looking in the forest for bush pigs at night, I got a phone call saying that there was a big snake on the road on campus (close by the rugby pitch) and I should come and have a look. I arrived there and found that beautiful Bitis arietans (Puff adder) crossing the road. I can't believe how beautiful the south african phase is...
Anyway I had nothing else than a golf club to catch it (I really have to make myself or buy a proper hook), so I caught it and kept it for the night for a photo session the next day and released it further in the forest so hopefully she won't come back and get killed by cars or peoples...
It was a beautiful female, about a 70 cm long, found around 10h30 pm at quiet a warm night.
Here are a few pictures

Thanks Kenny

We visited Goukamma National Reserve for a month during January this year. I had not visited the Cape for 5 years. We camped in Buffels Bay, between Knysna and George. As for reptiles, I only found 1 snake that had been driven over about 10km inland and a few agamas about 20m inland.

During a rain shower I took shelter under the deck of a vacation home and found this pompillid wasp with a spider. The spider was already paralyzed and the pompillid wasp did not like me probing at the spider with a stick. She took a defensive position over the spider and I left them be. The pompillid wasp paralyzes spiders with her venom. She then lays a single egg in the abdomen of the spider on which the larva will feed once hatched.

Hi everybody,

Long time I haven't update this post so I thought I would add a few pictures of some of the latest finds.

Crotaphopeltis hotemboeia (Herald snake) are pretty common around Saasveld to say the least. 6 in one spot.

Juvenile Bitis arietans (Puff adder).

Pachydactylus geitjie in the klein Karoo
Image

Lamprophis capensis (Brown house snake) in the klein Karoo

I love the pattern of your south african species. Not as dull as ours...

Nice post!

Good work on Bradypodion was wondering what took you so long.

Now get the other Bradypodion species in the Immediate area ( Those are more challenging)
