Thabazimbi

Postby BushSnake » Mon Oct 29, 2007 8:30 pm

We went out to Thabazimbi on Saturday night to look for some fresh air and in the process also came accross a few interesting creatures. This little bushveld rain frog was found while crossing the road. They look like lizzards when they walk and even more bizzare when they inflate themselves (not to mention the other sticky positions these fellows can get "onto"). His expression reminds me of some people...

We only found 1 live snake on the road - this little herald which confused the camera with something edible.

I also found this little whip under a tyre. I think it is a juvenile short snouted whip snake but because of the vivid colouration I actually hope its something else. Still nice to find though!

There were many frogs out and we also saw a foam nest frog, striped stream frog and plenty of guttoral and red toads. It felt like a game drive since we also saw some black rhino next to a fence as well as 2 giant eagle owls . All in all a great evening.

The snake looks like a Short snouted grass snake to me.

The rain frog was a nice find. I like those little guys.
