ID Baby Tortoise

ID Baby Tortoise

Postby Kobus » Sun Dec 03, 2017 9:02 am

Good Day,

I have seen this baby tortoise in Limpopo in Soutpansberg. I took the photo and he was very friendly. Hid his body only once.

Could somebody please ID it, because to me it looked like a "Berg Skilpad".

Why was it wandering alone and what does it eat when wandering alone like that.

What would its natural habitat be.

Kobus, I know absolutely nothing about Tortoises, but what an awesome little find.

Hi Kobus, its a hatchling Leopard Tortoise, its alone because its a solitary animal, same as snakes and most lizards , when they hatch they out on their own...
i wouldn't keep it as its a protected species.

Thank you Tony,

When I compare the photo with a photo on Google. Yes I must say they do look alike.

Nope I have not kept it. Just saw it. I saw him in Soutpansberg and I am living in Pretoria, Gauteng.

I am just curious.
