Call Out - Rock Monitor

Call Out - Rock Monitor

Postby Bushbaby » Mon Jan 07, 2008 1:48 pm

On the 26th December BV received a call out for a Rock Monitor. The people said it was injured and had flies buzzing all over it. I went to go catch it and found a huge Rock Monitor. She had blood and damage to her head, a bit on her tail, but the rest of her looked okay. She was gravid as well though.

When we started cleaning her wounds we realised that her one eyelid had been ripped off and thus her eye was tearing the whole time. The vet said she would probably remove the eye. BV took her to the vet the next day.

This is the girl I caught. She is currently still at the vet as she needed antibiotics for the infections, etc. That is my hand in the photo, just to give you an idea of how big she was. A really stunning creature and she had a lovely personality.

Whats going to happen to her? If her one eye is removed it will make it hard to live in the wild.

There's no ways we will release her. Once we get her back from the vet, she's going into retirement. She's an old girl and needs to be loved and taken care of.

Retirement seems like a good option.
You said she was gravid what will you do with the eggs

Depends when they get laid. We will incubate the eggs if they are laid with us, and once they hatch release the babies.

So are you going to keep her Bushbaby or is she going to a sanctuary?

We will see what happens. She must first make a full recovery before we can make any decisions regarding her future.

Obviously she wanted to lay her eggs and moved from where she had grown up, closer to that cruel animal called a human. There one the finest specimens of this excuse for an animal, tried to kill her by hitting her on the head repeatedly with a metal pole. Stunned she lay there and the cruel illegitimate child left feeling extremely virile.

She came too and ran for cover eventually ending up in the drive way of a more gentle example of this horrid species. There she was moved into a flower bed and we were phoned.

I have no desire to keep her because she will remind me of how much I hate certain humans. I am thankful that I did not witness this because that would have meant that I would go to jail for attempted murder or possibly even murder if I was lucky.

A dog would have bitten the bottom of the head as well because they have teeth at the top and bottom. A dog would not have dented the head the way this was dented either. All the marks are in line with each other from a single direction as well.
