Just an idea!

Just an idea!

I am just wondering if we could hold a "competition"?? By asking pics of any reptile setups if its really a winner setup then the guy could win something like a cornsnake or ratsnake. I cant do the sponsoring but I am sure there are guy's and girls out there with a unwanted corn-or ratsnake? This could be great to encourage people to make/build really good looking setups. This could also promote the hobby in a great way. :D :D

This has to be over a period of several weeks!

Hi Dasie,

My corn snakes just hatched, if you think the hatchlings are sufficient for a prize then I am willing to sponsor at least two. It is only albino and normals that hatched. Letme know. I have posted pics on the forum "first breeding attemp arrivals".

Hi

Being envolved with a bit of compos in my days, there need to be quite some rules and regulations... IE, what gear you allowe to use an what not, what must be contained in the setup and what not.

Your biggest problem with compos like these are that you need to get everyone on the same playing field. If Jannie has 10k and Sannie on 1k, it obvious that Jannie will win as he can buy the more "snazzie" items and equipment.

PM me, if you wish to discuss.

Regards
Hannes

Silvrav - that does sounds like a better idea, so let's first get all the rules and regulations going.

Yes silvrav that sounds good but I think that(because not all of us can afford the best and top of the range gear)the pics should not be judged by the best quality but rather by what they contain and of course the natural environment of the reptile belonging to the cage(a pic with a boa in a desert setup will not do). We need volunteering judges and a separate thread for the comments as all the comments will ruin the photo's as well as some more rules like no editing after you posted a photo and not more then 1 photo allowed. Any more ideas Silvrav or anyone ? :smt023

My 2c, judge on quality and craftmanship to start with, secondly to what extend did the person go to create the perfect natural inviroment. Did the person do homework on the snake he/she is gonna keep in the specific cage. Most people can build just any cage...and it will look good....but can you build a cage to keep a GTP happy for example?

This is actually an interesting idea.
It will show new herpers of what cages can look like and be build and stuff like that (if they are having a hard time creating a nice enclosure).

Just an idea, maybe check what snake is being used for which enclosure.
It will by much harder (and more expensive) to create a prefect enclosure for a 14ft Burmese, then for 4ft corn snake.
Maybe make sub-sections like venomous, arboreal, big boa`s and pythons, hatchlings, etc.
You might be able to get a lot of sponsors on the site(as a lot of the people just hatched their new baby`s, *nudge* *nudge* hehehe)

Also, will it be divided into areas KZN\JHB\CPT etc?

Hi

Happy to assist. If we can get sponsors (thanks mmwc for your input thus far) we could hold this comp once a year.

I think we will need judges to short list the entries and from there the members can vote.

Believe with your submission, you need to submit a detailed brief on what snake it is, its natural environment and how best you replicated it...but this all forms part of the T&C.

Believe this will force some members to do research and therefore improve the knowledge of our members as well.

Before we can decide on sub categories we first need number of entries.

Mods, if happy could we possible make a sticky thread where all interest parties can put down there name?

Willing to help,so who will champion this compo?

Cheers
