Rinkhals at school.

Rinkhals at school.

Postby Venommaniac » Fri Sep 28, 2012 6:32 am

I'd like to think I've saved the snake or fellow pupils from getting harmed. At cricket practice some one screamed snake and as all of us snake lovers would have done raced over there like I did saw it was a rinkhals plus minuse 1m in length I didn't have any thing to contain him with nor did I have a hook but I got all the kids away from trying to throw stones at him I got my coaches glasses pulled him away into we're apparently he lives he was soo calm no hood no spitting probably a little to scared. But it was awesome felt soo cool every one was applauding but I really didn't do anything.

Wasn't there a piece of wood that could have been used as a stick?

You did the best thing by simply keeping people away from it and not trying to mess around with it.
Next time you see it, keep a safe distance, whilst watching where it goes and call someone who knows how to safely handle a Rinkhals with the appropriate tools, there are many on SA Reptiles.

I really don't mean to start an argument or be rude or anything like that but I actually do reptile removals and have done many snake courses and have much experience with venomouse snakes and have my permit. I should have perhaps called some one who had equipment at the time and let them remove it but tommorow I'm going to find the snake and relocate it with the correct equipment as it is quiet dangerous having him around.

Just remember that there are permits required for doing reptile removals.

You mention you are 14, last time I checked you had to be 18 to have a removal permit. And your fathers permit can not cover you.

Bv or BB please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm speaking from what I know the requirements are in the western cape.

Truth is I've actually heard that but the people gave me the permit. But I'll double check and if I'm doing some thing wrong then I'll stop immediately :-)

Permit or no permit, you saved the snake.

It counts for something,

Well done :-D

Even if you do not have a permit and it means you will save someone's life removing the snake, I would also remove it then, otherwise the snake will be killed by someone.

I think you did well in a pressure situation. Nobody got hurt and you saved the snake. My only concern is that is that if the snake has made the school grounds its home then it's only a matter of time before it comes into contact with pupils again. Perhaps it needs to be found and relocated if possible, if it hasn't moved off of course.
