Rinkhals at Vaal Dam

Rinkhals at Vaal Dam

Postby Kakibos » Sat Mar 02, 2013 1:06 pm

Hey guys,

There was a request for a few Rinkhals to be removed on a plot at Vaal Dam,
the OP posted here : viewtopic.php?f=170&t=18944#p247633,

So yesterday I went to her place but I did not really have lots of time so I only looked for snakes where the OP saw the snakes recently.
Next week I will go again when I am not working and will spend the day looking for snakes
cause there is still lots of places on their plot that snakes could be hiding.

I found this guy under a pile off wood about 5 meters from the house.

and the pipe/tube working brilliantly, thanks BV!

After the little photo session I released the Rinkhals a few km from where I found him and he gave
me a little farewell spray in the face.

Definitely one of my favourite snakes. I love how variable their colouration can be.

A snake better appreciated in the wild, like anacondas, cotton mouths and mfezi's. Nice looking specimen, thanks for sharing.

I like the hook and the tube method. Much better than trying to be Rambo and getting bitten. Well done.

Good stuff! Seems like the Rinkhals are active at Vaaldam, had a club fishing comp there Saturday and almost stepped on one that came out from underneath my bakkie. Nice big one, estimate at about 1.1 to 1.3m. Dam levels has risen alot lately with lots of of weeds around the edge.
