Our first clutch of GTP babies

Our first clutch of GTP babies

Postby Jason&Sam » Wed Dec 14, 2011 10:01 pm

What a rollercoaster ride... they say breeding GTP's is difficult, what a learning experience we've had!

After watching our female go through a colour change, and a huge ovulation, I dicovered her dropping eggs from her perch one morning - and not showing any interest in the nesting box... so I spent the day watching closely and gently removing the eggs one by one that had been dropped onto the soft towels I placed underneath her. A really interesting and tedious experience.

After incubating for 50 days we cut the egg which was most dented,to find a fully formed and perfectly couloured little one inside. We waited until it had poked its head out, after 2 days to cut the remaining eggs and watched them all arrive over the next 3 days!

We ended up with 7 healthy little ones. We are very very happy :D .

The first picture is of the parents, and a few of the babies. So far one baby has eaten with no problem... I will perservere!

Enjoy!

I have never heard of eggs being laid off the perch ever hatching. That was real luck.

Lets hope you manage to get them all to feed. Just persevere!!!!
